anti-taxpayer bill [by bensonra60 on October 18, 2008]
about 2008 Senate Bill 2173 (Prevent Non-Unions Employees From Contract Bidding)
This bill, 2008-S-2173, forces businesses to use union laborers on public works projects by prohibiting the use of workers defined as independent contractors. It also forces bidders on public works contracts to have an apprenticeship program. This condition eliminates most small businesses. A bill like this increases the cost of public works projects, and because it discriminates against certain types of businesses may even be unconstitutional. RI does not need laws like this!

Legislator smokes [by Anonymous Citizen on September 30, 2008]
about 2008 House Bill 7350 (maximum cigar tax)
This quote is from a projo article (link below)

Shanley said he sponsored the cap at Healy’s request, but he said he had a personal interest as well — he smokes cigars, usually a Te Amo, grown in Mexico, or a Punch, grown in Honduras.

Cigar cap [by Denise 25 on September 29, 2008]
about 2008 House Bill 7350 (maximum cigar tax)
Wow, there should be a cap on the cigarette tax, but that will never happen. Do you think this passed because most of our lawmakers are men ... who smoke cigars?
In light of the state's economic plight, I would think any method to generate additional tax revenue would be welcome, without caps -- especially on cigars.

Enforcement? [by mmarseglia on September 5, 2008]
about 2008 Senate Bill 2012 (Prohibit electronic harassment by students )
I'd like to know how they plan on enforcing this.

How do you distinguish a legitimate work of parody, as protected by the Constitution of the United States, and bullying?

Totalists. [by mmarseglia on September 5, 2008]
about 2008 House Bill 7030 (property law)
Actually, I think a better word would be Totalists. Fascism is (more or less) equivalent to Nationalism on steroids.

Socialists wish to take the means of production and redistribute to the community.

But this law doesn't seek to redistribute, just to control, and fits the definition of Totalitarianism. "Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a concept used to describe political systems where a state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private life," from Wikipedia.

The chains of slavery are forged one by one.

I love this bill - dishonest, broke socialists in action [by Anonymous Citizen on June 23, 2008]
about 2008 Senate Bill 2219 (Creates a homeless welfare program)
First they create a new welfare program handing over $500k in taxpayer money to homeless bums. The program is a socialist's fantasy, authorizing busibody bureaucrats to micromanage these poor slobs' lives in half a dozen ways. But wait a sec . . . Oops! The state is broke - we don't have half a million to spend on welfare for bums (might have to take it out of legislator salaries, God forbid). I know! Let's create the progam anyway - that way we get to go home and brag about how "compassionate" we are - but not appropriate any money for it! The ignorant voters will never know, the lazy media will never tell them, and Lord knows neither will we.

Like I said, I love this bill! It captures the dishonesty and the intrusiveness of the legislative class in all its sliminess.
